The 12 Days of Christmas – Tips for the Holidays 11

So what about supplements during this time of the year?

A couple of the most useful ones up here in the Northern hemisphere would be...

Vitamin D...this is a essential supplement for those of us that hardly ever see the sun this time of year.  Not only is vitamin D important for your bone mineral density, but it also has key hormonal influences for us as well and can be useful in trying to burn off bodyfat and increase muscle mass.

Fish oil capsules...Omega 3 and Omega 6 fatty acids are key ingredients in our overall health.  They help us build cell walls, keep our brains healthy and prevent a host of disease like Alzheimers and other neurological diseases.

Glucosamine chondroitin...has been shown in some people to help with joint pain and inflammation.  It's about a 50/50 split between responders and non-responders, but it's worth giving a try if you suffer from painful, inflammed joints.

Curcumin and Tumeric are another batch of solid supplements you can try if you have achy joints that help ease inflammation and serve as anti-oxidants.  These are rather new in research, but they show some good results if taken regularly.  You might recognize these as being ingredients in Indian food such as curry.

So if you're looking for something to help out with the winter blue and those tired achy muscles, give these supplements a try.  As with everything though, they're not magic, they just help.
